Community join police in drugs crackdown

Police raid in drugs crackdown

Tony Lloyd has praised Greater Manchester Police following a crackdown on drug dealing in North Manchester, resulting in 36 arrests and the recovery of drugs.

On Wednesday 10 April 2013, 40 warrants were executed at addresses in Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall as part of Operation Cairo, which forms part of GMP’s spring clean to sweep up criminals.

Tony visited the control room to see how the operation went.

“Not only is this operation a success from Greater Manchester Police, it’s also a success for the communities of Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall and shows that the police are listening to the concerns of local people and, importantly, acting on that information,” he said.

“Inviting local people to witness the activity first hand, highlights how vital it is for the police, partners and the community to stand together to drive crime out of our neighbourhoods.”

Anyone with information about those involved in drug-related activity in their area should call police on 101, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
