Statement from Greater Manchester’s Police and Crime Commissioner following the sentencing of Ryan McGee from Salford for making a nail bomb:
Tony Lloyd said: “The public will welcome the fact that Ryan McGee is now starting a prison sentence as a result of exemplary work by Greater Manchester Police and the North West Counter Terrorism Unit.
“The public will be shocked that instead of carrying out his duty to protect this country, he turned to extremist beliefs and actions which were designed to promote hatred and could have had devastating consequences for individuals and communities across the nation.
“Across the communities of Greater Manchester we must and do stand together against those, from any background, who want to instil fear and devastation into our society.”
